The Guide for the Tokyo Game Show '99 Autumn
|
- Tokyo Game Show '99 Autumn
More than 400 new entertainment software, including those not yet in stores, are put on display twice a year at the Tokyo Game Show. As the world's leading exhibition where software is advertised directly to the users, the show draws hundreds of thousands of visitors eager to catch a glimpse of the latest trends in entertainment software industry.
For foreign game makers, the Tokyo Game Show is a prime opportunity to find partners for software sales and to appeal to the Japanese market. Many software makers from Asia and Europe have had great advertising success with their Game Show displays.
Show attendees can see and experience hundreds of the latest titles, main platforms and potable handy games. Network games and PC games are also on display at the show. More than 1,000 titles go on the market in Japan each year, and most of them make their debut at the Tokyo Game Show. New software for upcoming hardware will also be displayed. "NAVI PLAZA" has various programs, including event stages, projection of booths on a large screen by live report, exhibitors' information retrieval by computers. Well-reputed Kids' Corner and Overseas Exhibit Corner which has started since last exhibition will also appear again in the next show.
The Tokyo Game Show '99 Autumn is scheduled for September 17 - September 19 at Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center). About 25,000 visitors, including domestic and foreign buyers and the media, are expected to attend on day 1, the industry and press day. Day 2 and 3 are mainly for the public users who want to try the new titles. More than 130,000 visitors are expected during those 2 days.
Total sales of the Japanese video game industry totaled 1 trillion yen in 1998. This is in part the result of the efforts of software makers that use the Tokyo Game Show to introduce newly developed software to users and to develop new sales networks worldwide. The extensive, international media coverage of the event is a plus for software makers trying to promote their products to a global market.
The show is presented by the Computer Entertainment Software Association (CESA), an organization consisting of entertainment software companies and related companies, including platform makers. The first Tokyo Game Show was held in 1996. The show has been held twice a year (spring and autumn) since 1997, making this autumn's show the seventh exhibition. Regularly drawing more than 150,000 visitors, the Tokyo Game Show's attendance makes it one of the most well-known event in Japan.
