Tokyo Game Show Evolves into the Year 2000 Version Sending information

"Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring," with "Tokyo Game Show Evolves into the Year 2000 Version" as its theme, will be held in Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture) for three days from Mar. 31 to Apr. 2 , 2000.

Tokyo Game Show, which attracts great attention every time it is held, has received big response from Japan and abroad as the base station which leads the world and sends the latest information of computer entertainment software and as an event which plays a very important role in developing culture in this industry worldwide. As we enter the 21st century very soon, the computer entertainment industry in Japan is getting ready to move to a new stage, including the advent of a new generation hardware, rapid growth of internet, growing expectation of further expansion of the communication and network field.

Under these circumstances, because of exhibition of novel softwares which bring everybody closer to the new future of computer entertainment, as well as a new generation hardware, portable game machines, many new softwares that work with the on-line network," Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring" is expected to be the scene of unprecedented excitement.

A network game area using the portal site of the network game through "CESA network initiative," which is a new service scheduled to start on March 1st , will be set up in the Navi Plaza. We hope that visitors will enjoy the latest network game developed by CESA members.


Furthermore, "Tokyo Game Awards," (for amateur game creators ) which had good reputation in "Tokyo Game Show 1998 Autumn," was renamed The 2nd CESA Amateur Game Awards" and will be held in a new form. Original games developed by amateur game creators will be introduced and Excellence Award Ceremony will be held on the game show event stage.

As the festival at the night before "Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring," "The 4th Annual Japan Entertainment Software Awards" Presentation Ceremony will be held in Tokyo International Forum (Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku) on March 30 (Thurs.) As we approach the fourth year of "CESA Awards," which were held three times in the past, the content of the awards was reviewed and the awards will be held as renamed the "Japan Entertainment Software Awards" in order to develop the "awards as more open and authoritative awards." For the Japan Entertainment Software Awards, Grand Awards and other awards will be selected and awarded, with all works released in Japan during the period from January 1 to December 31, 1999 being eligible.

"Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring" will be held in the upgraded version toward the 21st century in the year that marks the start of a new millennium.


1. The theme is "Tokyo Game Show Evolves into the Year 2000 Version."

As with the preceding "Tokyo Game Show '99 Autumn," "Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring" continues to conceptualize "Network and Communication." Because various kinds of information infrastructure, such as PCs, video game machines, cellular phones, digital satellite TV, and cable TV, have been organized, it is anticipated that growth of network and communication will be even more accelerated in the 21st century. One direction of the concept of "EVOLUTION," which was also the concept "Tokyo Game Show '99 Spring" envisaged, is about to be embodied in "Network and Communication" in a clearer and more concrete form.

The theme of Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring is "Tokyo Game Show Evolves into the Year 2000 Version." Just before the 21st century, the game show envisaged the state of approaching accomplishment of further evolution toward the new century.
The "game show satellite," which was launched from the base station for sending information about games = Tokyo, continues to send information about the new future of computer entertainment software industry all over the world.


2. The poster design abstractly expresses that Tokyo Game Show is sending the latest information all over the world using the satellite "TOKYO GAME SHOW."

Using the gigantic satellite "TOKYO GAME SHOW," with the logo of Tokyo Game Show shining on the body, launched to the space, the poster design abstractly expressed that Tokyo Game Show is sending the latest information all over the world. The catch phrase "Welcome to the festival bringing a wave of the new century" was attached to the area.

3. A total of 61 exhibitors and a total of 1,257booths

As of January 4, a total of 61 exhibitors will participate and a total of 1,257 booths were occupied.

4. The area of the venue is about 54,000m2 comprising from exhibition halls 1 to 8 in Makuhari Messe.

Exhibition halls 1 to 8 are used for the venue. The area of the venue is about 54,000 m2, same as before. The general exhibition area, where new game softwares will be introduced, is in the exhibition halls 2 to 6. The entrance will be set up in the exhibition hall 2. In order to ease the expected congestion immediately after the doors open, the line guiding visitors who come to visit the general exhibition area has been separated from the line guiding visitors who come to buy goods related game software in the product sales area. The product sales area has been concentrated on the exhibition hall 1.

"TGS Navi Plaza," which was established in the previous show and had good reputation, will be set up in the exhibition hall 7.@Functions of "event stage," "meeting place," and "information corner" will be collected there. Furthermore, the space for stage seats will be opened as the "rest space." The corner for searching information about exhibition booth using PC, which is intended to offer various kinds of information about exhibitors, has a function of the navigation corner so that visitors can read and obtain more information than ever. In the event stage, a variety of event programs will be held as before. The Navi Plaza will play a role of a communication zone, such as report on exhibition booths and showing a PR film of exhibitors, to relate exhibitors to visitors.

Exhibition areas of the "Publishing Corner," where information about games is provided by publications such as magazines and newspapers, the "PC Corner," where computer games are introduced, the "Game School Corner," where information about game school is provided for people who want to be a game creator, receives good reputation every time they are held because of a variety of and useful information.
In the Overseas Corner, which now attracts attention, visitors can try the latest overseas game softwares. The popular "Kid's Corner," which is intended for elementary school children and younger to enjoy, will have an exclusive entrance, and will be located in the exhibition hall 8 as before.


5. Presentation ceremomy of "The 2nd CESA Amateur Game Awards - Win! future creators" will be held on the event stage.

"Tokyo Game Awards," (for amateur game creators ) which had good reputation in "Tokyo Game Show 1998 Autumn," was renamed "The 2nd CESA Amateur Game Awards" and will be held in a new form. Original works developed by amateur game creators will be invited. Excellent works will be selected from the works accepted and presentation ceremony for nominated works and grand award, award for excellence and other awards will be held on the event stage of the game show. This award gives a golden opportunity to people who want to be a professional game creator for showing their works. This award will be held in a larger scale and is expected to be the scene of the unprecedented excitement.


6. The latest network game can be tried through the "CESA network initiative".

The network game area will be established in the Navi Plaza in the exhibition hall 7. Visitors can play the latest network game developed by CESA members through the portal site of the "CESA network initiative". The portal site will be composed of the contents of CESA members, and has a function of contents such as the latest network game, information mail service, shopping mall and user community. It is scheduled to open officially on March 1 (Wed.), 2000.


7. Festival the Night Before "Tokyo Game Show 2000 Spring"
"The 4th Annual Japan Entertainment Software Awards" Presentation Ceremony will be held.

The Computer Entertainment Software Association has staged the "CESA Awards" for the past three years.
As we approach the fourth year of these awards, by renaming them the "Japan Entertainment Software Awards", and by adding judging by an academy committee as a new selection criteria, we hope to develop and advance these awards as more open and authoritative awards.

Presentation Ceremony will be held at Tokyo International Forum (Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on March 30th, 2000 (Thursday). Announcement of results of voting and presentation of awards will be made at this ceremony.
